Health Care Rumors Debunked: Cincinnati Health Department Clarifies No Decisions on Bobbie Sterne Health Center Closure

Cincinnati Health Department exploring various solutions for health centers

As a journalist, I have been contacted by the Cincinnati Health Department to address the concerns raised in an article written by Betsy Kim on June 23 titled “Health care in peril, Over-the-Rhine residents fear their clinic will close.” The article has suggested that the Cincinnati health officials are considering relocation and consolidation plans, with most plans involving the closure of the Bobbie Sterne Health Center.

However, it is important to clarify that no decisions have been made regarding the Bobbie Sterne Health Center. The information in the article is based on recommendations from a consultant hired in 2023. The Cincinnati Health Department hired Jensen Partners to conduct a study on all our facilities to determine the most cost-effective way to provide quality care to our patients. These recommendations are currently under review.

As we progress with our review and planning, we are committed to engaging with the community, including those who may be impacted by potential changes. We will explore all options available to us and ensure transparent communication throughout the process.

Our primary focus remains on improving the health and wellness of Cincinnati citizens and ensuring access to public health services. Grant Mussman, the Cincinnati Health Department commissioner, is dedicated to leading these efforts. We recognize that issues such as long wait times for service can be attributed to physical limitations in our current facilities and take pride in providing high-quality services at our health centers.
