Happiness Alpaca-Guided: Community Celebrates Mental Health with Cuddly Critters and Family Activities

Event raises awareness for mental health in the community

On Saturday, families from the Greater Scranton Area gathered at the YMCA in Dunmore for a special event called “Thriving Together”. This free community event aimed to raise awareness and celebrate the organization’s well-being initiative known as “Mental health is wealth”.

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the alpaca petting zoo, which helped to keep everyone in a calm state of mind. Haley Schaffer, an alpaca enthusiast, shared that these animals are emotional support animals that provide comfort and companionship. They are fluffy and very friendly, making them perfect for cuddling with family members and friends.

Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a variety of family-friendly activities, including a giant dart board, bounce houses, and even meeting the Wilkes-barre Scranton Mascot Tux. These activities were designed to promote mental and emotional well-being and create a sense of community among attendees.

The “Thriving Together” program will continue to host events that engage the community in activities and practices to support mental and emotional health. These events aim to provide resources for individuals to enhance their overall well-being and happiness by creating a sense of community and fostering positive relationships.
