Gymnastics Stars Shine at FIG World Challenge Cup: Andrade and Chusovitina Secure Second Place Finishes

In her seasonal debut in Antalya, Rebeca Andrade finishes second on uneven bars

Brazilian gymnast Rebecca Andrade finished in second place in the uneven bars final at the FIG World Challenge Cup in Antalya, Türkiye on Sunday (31 March), marking the beginning of her Olympic year. The 24-year-old achieved vault gold and all-around silver at Tokyo 2020, scoring 14.067 for her routine, placing her half a point behind French Olympian Melanie de Jesus dos Santos. Georgia-Mae Fenton of Britain took third with a score of 13.767.

Meanwhile, eight-time Olympian Oksana Chusovitina delivered two strong performances in the vault final, earning an average score of 12.917. This secured her second place behind Tjasa Kysselef of Slovenia, who scored 13.017. The Uzbekistani veteran has one final opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at May’s Asian Championships in Tashkent.

In the floor event, Adem Asil delighted his home fans by winning with a score of 14.400. He narrowly missed first place in the rings competition, finishing just five-hundredths behind his teammate Ibrahim Colak, the 2019 world champion. Jordan’s Ahmad Abu Al Soud claimed victory on the pommel horse with a score of 14.900, surpassing Nariman Kurbanov of Kazakhstan.
