Greensboro Science Center’s New Expedition Rainforest: An Immersive Year-Round Tropical Destination

Groundbreaking for Expedition Rainforest at Greensboro Science Center is Right Around the Corner

The Greensboro Science Center is set to embark on its largest project to date, Expedition Rainforest. This new facility will encompass the Greensboro Biodome and the Aquatic Rehabilitation and Conservation Center, spanning over 65,000 square feet. More than 200 animals from South America, Asia, and Africa will call this place home, along with a variety of exotic plants.

Executive Director Glenn Dobrogosz envisions Expedition Rainforest as a year-round tropical getaway within Greensboro, offering a warm respite during the cold winter months. This project is set to make the Greensboro Science Center a four-in-one destination and an institution unlike any other in North Carolina, possibly even in the country.

The groundbreaking project promises to bring a unique and immersive experience to visitors, showcasing a diverse array of wildlife and vegetation from around the world. Construction on Expedition Rainforest is scheduled to begin this coming September, with the anticipated grand opening set for September 2026.
