New Agreements Announced for Green Ammonia Production in Suez Canal Economic Zone

The General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone has announced the signing of four agreements to produce green ammonia within its integrated Sokhna and East Port Said regions. These projects have total investments amounting to 31.4 billion euros and an annual production volume estimated at about 6.241 million tons.

The first agreement involves a partnership between several companies to develop and operate a green ammonia production facility in the integrated Sokhna area. This project will be done in two phases with total investments of 13.5 billion euros and an annual production capacity of 330 thousand tons of green ammonia. Commercial operations are set to begin by the fourth quarter of 2030, with the annual production capacity in the first phase estimated at about 2.5 million tons.

The second agreement, signed with Oqure Energy Holding Company, involves the development and operation of a green ammonia production facility in the integrated zone in Sokhna. This project also includes two phases with investments totaling 3.9 billion euros and an annual production capacity in the pilot phase of 100,000 tons. Commercial operations for this project are expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2029, with an annual production capacity of about 900,000 tons in the first phase expected for the fourth quarter of 2031.
