Apostolos Christou Sets World’s 3rd Fastest Time This Season in 100m Backstroke with 52.23 seconds

The 2024 European Championships recently came to an end with the Men’s 100 Backstroke Final taking center stage. The World Record and European Record of 51.60 were both held by Thomas Ceccon from Italy, set in 2022. The Championship Record stood at 52.11, set by Camille LaCourt of France in 2010.

In the final, Apostolos Christou of Greece emerged victorious with a time of 52.23, ranking as the third fastest time in the world so far this season. Christou’s personal best of 52.09 was achieved during the semifinals at the 2022 World Championships, where he finished fifth with a time of 52.57.
