Grass court glory: Sinner and Paul’s thrilling victories at Halle and Queen’s, while Skupski and Venus make history in doubles.

First title as world number one: Jannik Sinner defeats Hubert Hurkacz at the Halle Open

Jannik Sinner has claimed his first title as the world number one at the Halle Open, defeating Hubert Hurkacz in a thrilling 7-6 (10-8) 7-6 (7-2) match. This marks Sinner’s first grass-court title and only his third loss this season, which came from Carlos Alcaraz at the French Open and Indian Wells, and Stefanos Tsitsipas in Monte Carlo. As he prepares for Wimbledon, where he will be the top seed, Sinner aims to surpass his semi-final performance from last year.

On the other hand, Tommy Paul achieved the biggest title of his career by winning at Queen’s over Lorenzo Musetti. With this victory, Paul moved up to 12th in the world rankings and became the top-ranked American men’s player. In the match, Paul quickly took control, making only two unforced errors in the first set. Although he faced some challenges in the second set with Musetti forcing a tie-break, Paul’s strong serve helped him secure victory on his third match point.

In addition to these individual accomplishments, Britain’s Neal Skupski and New Zealander Michael Venus also made history by coming back from a set down to defeat Russian Karen Khachanov and American Taylor Fritz 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 10-8 in the doubles final at Queen’s.
