Grain-Storage Technology Patent Battle Ends: Prairie Land and Sioux Steel Settle $13.8 Million Deal

Prairie Land Millwright Services Inc. and Sioux Steel Co. have finally settled their eight-year-long patent battle over grain-storage technology. The dispute came to a close more than a year after Sioux Steel emerged victorious in an infringement verdict, where they were awarded $11.8 million. Prairie Land had filed an appeal, but both companies recently requested the dismissal of the appeal from the Federal Circuit.

In a separate agreement, Prairie Land paid Sioux Steel $13.8 million to fully satisfy the court’s judgment. This amount not only covered the initial infringement verdict, but also included pre- and post-judgment interest, costs, and supplemental damages. The settlement between the two companies has officially put an end to the lengthy legal dispute.

Sioux Steel, a prominent farm equipment manufacturer, and Prairie Land, known for their millwright services, have now put this chapter behind them. The resolution of this case marks a significant conclusion to a long-standing legal battle over intellectual property rights in grain-storage technology. Both companies can now move forward without the burden of ongoing litigation hanging over them.
