GlobalFoundries Acquires Tagore Technology: Expanding Power IP Portfolio and Advancing GaN Technology for More Efficient Product Development

GlobalFoundries purchases Tagore Technology’s GaN technology

GlobalFoundries has recently acquired Tagore Technology, significantly expanding their power IP portfolio and increasing access to GaN technology. This move will allow customers to develop differentiated products more quickly and efficiently. The acquisition also includes a team of experienced engineers from Tagore who specialize in the development of GaN technology, further enhancing GlobalFoundries’ capabilities in this area.

With the recent award of $1.5 billion in direct funding under the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act, GlobalFoundries is well-positioned to invest in high-volume manufacturing of critical technologies like GaN. By combining their manufacturing capacity with the expertise of the Tagore team, GlobalFoundries aims to enhance the efficiency of AI systems, particularly in edge and IoT devices that require reduced power consumption.

“This acquisition is a strategic step towards accelerating the availability of GaN technology and empowering customers to create innovative power management solutions that will shape the future of industries such as mobility, connectivity, and intelligence,” said Niels Anderskouv, chief business officer at GlobalFoundries. “We are committed to supporting our customers in their power applications both now and in the future.”

Amitava Das, co-founder and chief operating officer of Tagore Technology, highlighted the increasing demand for power-efficient semiconductors and expressed excitement about joining forces with GlobalFoundries. “The Tagore team looks forward to focusing on developing market-leading IP that addresses power design challenges and supports continued advancement of power delivery systems in automotive, industrial, and AI datacenter applications,” he said.
