Global Health Leaders Gather for WHA77: Prioritizing Pandemic Preparedness and Response in 2024

Global health officials gather at 77th World Health Assembly to discuss pandemic readiness, climate change, and other key health issues.

The World Health Assembly (WHA77) is set to take place from May 27 to June 1, 2024, in Geneva, Switzerland. This session will bring together global health authorities, including ministers from the Americas region. The theme for this session is “All for Health, Health for All,” with discussions focusing on the World Health Organization’s new strategy for global health 2025-2028.

One of the key topics to be discussed at WHA77 is the Pandemic prevention, preparedness and response agreement. Led by WHO member states, this agreement aims to ensure that all countries are better prepared to effectively and equitably respond to future pandemics. Various decisions are also expected on health priorities such as climate and health, emergencies, access to transformative tools, antimicrobial resistance, communicable diseases, noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), mental health, and women’s health.
