Global Efforts Advance Pandemic Preparedness Agreements as Pharmaceutical Industry Supports Drafting of WHO Convention

Development and Manufacture of Vaccines for Global Health Protection by IFPMA & DCVMN

At the World Health Assembly on 1 June, member states agreed on amendments to the International Health Regulations (2005) and decided to complete negotiations on a pandemic agreement within a year. The pharmaceutical industry has responded to these agreements. IFPMA submitted a statement at the assembly on Provisional Agenda Item 13.3, acknowledging and appreciating the efforts made by Member States in advancing the text of the Working Group on Amendments to the International Health Regulations (WGIHR).

IFPMA, along with other organizations such as GSCF, GMTA, DVCMN, and BIO, submitted a constituency statement on Provisional Agenda Item 13.4 regarding the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body to draft and negotiate a WHO convention, agreement, or other international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response. The pharmaceutical industry is actively involved in discussions and negotiations surrounding pandemic preparedness agreements at the World Health Assembly.
