Investor Tips for the Week: Earnings Season in Full Swing, Fed Interest Rate Decision Released

Investors are focused on a range of economic news and events this week, from the ongoing earnings season in Finland to the upcoming interest rate meeting in the United States.

In Helsinki, 23 listed companies are expected to report their first quarter results by the end of the week. Companies like Nokia, Fortum, and Cargotec will be announcing their results on different days. Investors are particularly interested in seeing an improvement in earnings from Nokian Tires.

Meanwhile, all eyes are on the upcoming interest rate meeting of the central bank Fed in the United States, scheduled for May Day. Analysts expect the Fed to keep the interest rate unchanged within a range of 5.25–5.50 percent, with an announcement coming on Wednesday evening. Before then, a series of key macroeconomic data figures will be published in the US, including consumer confidence scores and private sector vacancies.

Inflation figures for April will be released in Europe on Tuesday morning, followed by GDP numbers for the Eurozone’s first quarter later that day and an unemployment rate update for March next Friday. Economists predict an annual inflation rate of around 2.3-2.4 percent for Europe during this period.
