GITEX Africa Collaborates with Nigeria for 2025 Convention

GITEX Global, a leading technology event that has been held in Dubai for over 40 years, is expanding its reach with a new international venture in Nigeria. The move comes after the success of GITEX Africa in Morocco in May 2023. This marks the first time that the event will be held in Lagos, and it’s seen as a promising development for the tech industry in Nigeria.

The Director General and CEO of Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, emphasized the importance of this moment in bringing GITEX to Nigeria. He highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to trade and economic diversification and the desire to energize the tech ecosystem in Nigeria.

The CEO of KAOUN International, organizers of GITEX, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership and the talent of Nigerian teams in pitch competitions. Nigeria is noted as the fastest-growing country for developers in Africa, raising the potential for more winners. Bringing GITEX to Nigeria aims to explore opportunities in sectors like AI, digital health, and fintech.

The initiative not only seeks to showcase local innovations but also to integrate the Nigerian tech ecosystem with GITEX Africa and GITEX Global in Europe. This integration will provide Nigerian startups with opportunities to export their technology and ideas to new markets.

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi explained that this move aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of promoting innovation and entrepreneurship while creating new job opportunities through technological advancements.

“We are thrilled about this opportunity,” said Abdullahi. “GITEX has always been a platform for showcasing technological advancements on a global scale. With this new venture in Nigeria, we hope to attract more innovative solutions from African startups.”

The move is seen as a positive step towards strengthening Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies. The tech industry has been growing rapidly, driven by young entrepreneurs who are developing cutting-edge technologies that have significant potential for impact across various sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and transportation.

The launch date for this new venture has not been announced yet, but it is expected that it will take place sometime soon. It is an exciting opportunity for startups operating within Nigeria’s tech industry who can now showcase their products on a global stage.

Overall, bringing GITEX Global to Nigeria is an important milestone that will help drive innovation and entrepreneurship while promoting economic growth within Africa’s largest economy.
