In Monday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr. exited the game after sustaining a left leg injury. Wade doubled off the right field wall but injured himself as he slid into second base, grabbing the back of his left leg in the hamstring area. With the assistance of an athletic trainer, Wade was able to walk off the field gingerly.
LaMonte Wade Jr.’s injury comes after he tweaked his hamstring in the ninth inning of the Giants’ win over the New York Mets on Friday. He did not start Saturday’s game but entered as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning, and did not play in Sunday’s series finale. The Giants will be closely monitoring his injury and hoping for a speedy recovery to have him back in the lineup soon.
Wade has been one of the Giants’ best hitters this season, and losing him for an extended period would be a significant blow to the team. He is currently hitting .333/.470/.426 with six doubles, two home runs, and 17 RBI this season. With his performance on Monday finishing 1-for-3, it is clear that he will be missed when he is unable to play.
