Giants Reunite with Shortstop Nick Ahmed, Bringing Excitement and New Possibilities to the Team

The impact of Ahmed’s return to the Giants off IL on Wisely and Luciano

The return of shortstop Nick Ahmed to the Giants after his stint on the Injured List has brought excitement and new possibilities to the team. As a two-time Gold Glove winner, Ahmed missed 30 games due to a left wrist sprain but was batting .236 with 11 RBIs in 36 games before the injury. Despite a slight setback during his rehab, Ahmed is eager to be back with the team.

With Ahmed’s return, Marco Luciano, the Giants’ top infield prospect, was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento to make room on the roster. Brett Wisely had been filling in for Ahmed and has been one of the Giants’ hottest hitters, carrying a .317 batting average into Friday’s game. However, with Ahmed back in action, Wisely may see less playing time going forward.

Manager Bob Melvin mentioned the possibility of platooning Ahmed and Wisely together. Both players are expected to see playing time going forward. Luciano struggled defensively during his brief stint with the big league club but is expected to improve with more playing time. The Giants remain optimistic about Luciano’s future in the majors.
