Giants Add UFL Running Back, Cut Wide Receiver from Roster

Chase Cota, Giants’ wide receiver, placed on injured reserve

On Tuesday, the New York Giants signed UFL running back Jacob Saylors, which required them to create a spot on their 90-man roster. In order to do so, they placed wide receiver Chase Cota on injured reserve (IR) after he broke his collarbone during minicamp.

Chase Cota is a 24-year-old who went undrafted in 2023 out of Oregon. He measures 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds and started his college career at UCLA before spending time on the practice squads of the Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs, and Houston Texans last season. Despite signing a reserve/futures contract with the Giants in late January, Cota was not expected to make the final 53-man roster. Instead, he was likely competing for a spot on the practice squad.

Once he becomes eligible for an injury settlement, Cota can be waived off of IR and will be free to sign with another team.
