Get Ready for Action at Paris 2024: The Return of Shooting to the Olympic Games!

Gun violence at the Paris 2024 Olympics

In the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, shooting will once again be a featured sport. The shooting events will take place at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre, located 140 miles south of the French capital, from July 27th to August 5th. There will be a total of 15 medal events at this year’s games, including disciplines such as 10m Air Rifle, 50m Rifle 3 Positions, and more.

The three Olympic shooting disciplines are rifle, pistol, and shotgun. Athletes aim at targets at distances of 10m, 25m and 50m while using relaxation techniques to lower their heartbeat for accuracy. Shotgun events take place outdoors where shooters aim at flying disc-shaped targets.

At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, China was the top performing shooting nation with a total of 11 medals. The United States followed closely behind with a total of 116 medals, while Great Britain finished third with a total of 33 medals. Great Britain’s most recent gold medal in shooting was won by Peter Wilson in London in 2012 and Matt Coward-Holley won a bronze medal in men’s trap in Tokyo. Amber Hill was the best female performer in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 where she finished sixth on skeet.
