Google is introducing new features in Gmail that use artificial intelligence to improve email management. The Gemini panel is one of these features, allowing users to perform advanced actions such as summarizing email conversations and composing new emails. This tool also introduces proactive prompts and the ability to ask free-form questions using Google’s advanced models, including Gemini 1.5 Pro.
However, access to these enhancements will be restricted to paying Gemini users. To gain access, users must be a Google Workspace customer with a Gemini Business or Enterprise add-on, have a Gemini Education or Education Premium add-on, or be a Google One AI Premium subscriber. These features will not be limited to the desktop version of Gmail, as conversations can also be summarized on mobile apps.
In addition to these enhancements, Google has announced that Gemini functionality will be extended to side panels in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. More AI features are in the pipeline for Gmail, including Contextual Smart Reply, which aims to further streamline email management tasks.
