Geissler’s Supermarket to Acquire Local Connecticut Grocery Business

Geissler’s Supermarkets is set to acquire Fitzgerald’s Foods, a family-owned supermarket in Simsbury, Conn. This move marks an expansion for Connecticut’s independent grocer Geissler’s Supermarket.

Geissler’s has recently reopened a revamped location in Granby, Conn., featuring expanded produce, bakery, and deli sections, as well as a new kitchen to offer a wider selection of family meals. According to a report by NBC Connecticut, the acquisition is expected to be finalized in mid-June.

The acquisition will bring Fitzgerald’s Foods under the umbrella of Geissler’s Supermarkets. President and CEO of Geissler’s Bob Rybick welcomed the opportunity to expand his business and expressed his commitment to retaining all of Fitzgerald’s staff, including owners Bryan and Sandy DeVoe. The acquisition is subject to final licensing and approvals but is on track to be completed by mid-June.

Geissler’s Supermarkets was founded in 1923 and has been owned by the same family ever since. Currently, they operate six stores across Connecticut and Massachusetts.
