Florida Gators pitcher Pierce Coppola (28) and catcher Brody Donay (29) celebrate after Florida eliminated Kentucky in the NCAA College World Series elimination game. The Gators had just won two games in one day, setting them up for a semifinal matchup against Texas A&M in the Bracket 2 semifinal.
Florida dominated the game, scoring 15 runs on 13 hits and striking out nine batters. Brody Donay hit a grand slam in the first inning, giving Florida a substantial lead over Kentucky. He finished the game with three hits and five RBIs, making him the fifth Gator to have a multi-home run game in the College World Series.
The Gators’ success was powered by their impressive performance on both offense and defense. They were able to hold Kentucky scoreless after Émilien Pitre hit a two-run home run off Coppola in the fifth inning, thanks to Coppola’s ability to strike out nine batters over five innings. The team’s solid pitching and hitting made it difficult for Kentucky to keep up.
With their victory over Kentucky, Florida set themselves up for an exciting semifinal matchup against Texas A&M later that day. If they win this game, they would advance to the College World Series championship starting on Saturday. However, if they lose to Texas A&M, they would be eliminated from the series and their season would come to an end.
