However, despite 706 Kyles showing up at a park in the suburbs of Austin, they fell short of their goal. The current record is held by a town in Bosnia that brought together 2,325 people named Ivan in 2017.
The city of Kyle has been making attempts to break the world record for the largest gathering of people with the same name. Last year, the Gathering of the Kyles attracted 1,490 participants in the fast-growing Texas city. Despite their efforts, Kyle still falls behind when compared to other cities with more popular names. The name Ivan ranks 153rd among male names in the United States according to the Social Security Administration, while Kyle ranks much lower at 416th.
Despite not being able to beat their previous records or surpass their counterparts from Bosnia and other countries with more popular names, these gatherings have become a fun tradition in Kyle. Located about 37 miles south of Austin, which is the state’s capital, these events bring together Kyles of all ages and backgrounds for a day filled with music and laughter.
