Garland Transferring Control of Public Health Clinic to DCHHS: Ensuring Continued Access to Healthcare Services

The City of Garland has announced that it will transfer control of its public health clinic to Dallas County Health and Human Services. This decision was made due to the fact that grant funding for the clinic is about to expire, and the city wants to avoid cutting back on services. A recent report presented to the City Council revealed that demand for services at the clinic has been increasing, but the grants supporting this increase are coming to an end.

With only two grant programs remaining, it was clear that they were not sufficient to maintain the clinic’s current capacity. In order to prevent any disruption in service, the City Council unanimously approved an agreement to transfer the clinic’s operations to Dallas County Health and Human Services. During this transition period, residents of Garland can continue to visit the clinic.

Mistie Gardner, managing director of health services in Garland, expressed confidence in DCHHS’ ability to provide exceptional care during this transfer of control. DCHHS has reassured that there will be no price increases for public health services during this transition, and they plan to retain all clinic employees and continue offering the same services. There is also potential for expanding health programs like chronic disease prevention and sexual health services.
