Gabby Douglas Withdraws from US Gymnastics Championships Due to Injury, Ending Olympics Bid but Vowing to Continue Training for 2028

Olympic champion Gabby Douglas pulls out of Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships

Gabby Douglas has withdrawn from this week’s Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships due to an ankle injury she sustained, ending her bid for the Paris Olympics. The championships are taking place from Thursday through Sunday, with the women’s competition starting on Friday in Fort Worth, Texas. Despite this setback, a representative for Douglas confirmed that she will continue to train for a potential bid at the 2028 Olympics.

After returning to competition in April for the first time since the 2016 Rio Games, Douglas showed that her skills are still at an elite level. She participated in the American Classic where she finished 11th in the all-around, placing second on vault and tying for fifth on the balance beam. However, in her second competition back on May 18 at the Core Hydration Classic, Douglas had to withdraw after her first routine on the uneven bars where she fell off the apparatus twice before completing her set.

Despite these challenges, Douglas remains dedicated to gymnastics and hopes to continue inspiring both her peers and future generations of athletes. She believes that age is just a number and that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.
