FujiFilm Fight against Image Distortion Correction Patent Infringement Lawsuit

FujiFilm files lawsuit against inventor alleging camera technology infringement

FujiFilm North America Corp. is seeking a federal judge to rule that the image-distortion correction features in its digital cameras do not infringe on patents held by a California inventor, Optimum Imaging Technologies LLC. The company claims that its products utilize digital lens aberration correction technology without the need for a license from Optimum Imaging Technologies since they do not infringe on any patents. In May 2019, Neal Solomon, the founder of Optimum Imaging Technologies, filed a lawsuit against FujiFilm for alleged patent infringement related to these features. However, FujiFilm is contesting these claims and has filed a complaint seeking declaratory judgment in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. The case will now be reviewed by a federal judge in California to determine whether FujiFilm’s claims are valid and should be allowed to continue operating without interference from Optimum Imaging Technologies.
