Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and Florida State University have announced a partnership to establish an academic health center in Tallahassee, as well as a medical campus in Panama City Beach. This agreement was signed on Monday with the signing of a memorandum of understanding that outlines the creation of a nonprofit corporation that will oversee research and clinical education decisions.
Florida State University President Richard McCullough expressed his excitement for the FSU Health initiative, which aims to transform the healthcare ecosystem in North Florida. Funding for the academic health center was provided by the Legislature and Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2022, with $125 million allocated to Florida State University for construction. The site for the academic health center is currently being cleared on Tallahassee Memorial property, with construction set to begin soon and completion expected by 2026.
In addition to the academic health center, Florida State University is also collaborating with Tallahassee Memorial and The St. Joe Co. to establish a medical campus in Panama City Beach. This facility is anticipated to open later this year as part of the FSU Health initiative. The partnership between FSU and TMH aims to improve healthcare accessibility and quality in North Florida through research, clinical education, and patient care services.
