From World Cup to Los Angeles: Olivier Giroud Bids Farewell to International Duty and Looks Forward to a New Chapter in MLS

Giroud announces retirement from French national team following Euro 2024

Olivier Giroud, the all-time top scorer for France with 57 goals in 131 appearances, has announced his intention to retire from international duty after Euro 2024. The AC Milan striker, who won the World Cup with France in 2018 and scored four goals to help France reach the final in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has been named in the provisional squad for the upcoming Euros in Germany.

Giroud expressed his emotions about stepping down from the national team, acknowledging the need to make way for younger players and find the right balance in his career. Despite not scoring in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Giroud found success in the 2022 World Cup and will play his final match for Milan against Salernitana on the last day of the Serie A season.

After a successful career in both club and international football, Giroud looks forward to embarking on a new chapter with Los Angeles FC after bidding farewell to the French national team. He has signed an 18-month contract with Los Angeles FC that includes an option of a further year.
