From UFL to NFL: The Journey of First-of-its-kind Receiver Daewood Davis with the Panthers

Panthers set to sign UFL WR Daewood Davis

The Panthers have signed UFL receiver Daewood Davis to their roster, according to a report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. During the 2023 season, Davis caught 41 passes for 446 yards and five touchdowns on 70 targets in 10 games with the Memphis Showboats. Prior to his time in the UFL, Davis played college football at Oregon from 2017-2020 and Western Kentucky in 2021-2022, but he went undrafted in 2023.

Despite going undrafted, Davis signed with the Dolphins as a college free agent. However, his time with the team was cut short when he was hospitalized with head and neck injuries during a preseason game against the Jaguars in August. The game was suspended following Davis’ injury, and the Dolphins ultimately waived him from their training camp roster.

Despite these challenges, Davis has now become the first UFL player to sign with an NFL team as he joins the Panthers for the upcoming season. It will be fascinating to see how Davis transitions from the UFL to the NFL and how he contributes to the Panthers’ receiving corps.
