From Third Seed to Last Chance: The Inspiring Journey of Erika Andreeva at Wimbledon

Sabalenka Forced to Withdraw from Wimbledon Due to Injury

Erika Andreeva, who lost in the final round of qualifying, has been given a chance to compete at Wimbledon as a lucky loser after Aryna Sabalenka withdrew due to an injury. The Belarusian player, who was the third seed in the tournament, had to retire from a match at the Berlin Open last week and had been unable to recover in time for Wimbledon.

Sabalenka attempted to practice earlier on Monday but had to leave after just 15 minutes due to the pain she was experiencing. Despite being the Australian Open champion, she announced her heartbreaking decision to pull out of Wimbledon on Instagram. Sabalenka mentioned that despite trying everything to get herself ready, her shoulder was not cooperating. She pushed herself to the limit in practice but her team advised against playing as it would only make her injury worse.
