From Suffering to Surgery: The Successful Battle Against Tonsillitis and Adenoiditis in Baby Samnang Chea

Tonsillitis Returns 15 Times annually

Baby Samnang Chea, an 8-year-old child from Cambodia, has been suffering from tonsillitis and adenoiditis (inflammation of the nasopharyngeal lymphoid tissue) about 1-2 times per month for the past year. This has led to complications such as respiratory infections and otitis media. The recurring disease causes symptoms like fever, stiff throat, stuffy nose, headache, dry cough, sleep apnea, and snoring.

Ms. Li Sek, the baby’s mother, brought her child to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam for treatment. At the Ear, Nose, and Throat Center of Tam Anh General Hospital, Chea’s endoscopy results showed red and swollen tonsils with a layer of yellow fluid in her throat. On May 7th , Dr. CKI Diep Phuc Anh diagnosed the baby with severe tonsillitis and adenoiditis leading to airway obstruction and difficulty breathing through the mouth.

Dr. Diep Phuc Anh performed surgery to remove Chea’s tonsils using coblator plasma technology and curettage of the adenoids through endoscopy. This minimally invasive method limits post-operative complications and ensures a quick recovery. Chea was able to talk, eat, and drink three hours after surgery and was discharged from the hospital after 24 hours.

Excessive tonsillitis can cause difficulties in eating, fatigue, bad breath, prolonged cough, sore throat
