From Slim to Towering: The Growth and Future Prospects of Florida Basketball Commit Olivier Rioux

Top basketball recruit at Gators commits, experiences growth spurt, set to become tallest player in college history

In recent weeks, there has been a lot of excitement surrounding the prospects of Olivier Rioux, a three-star center committed to Florida basketball’s 2024 class. Originally from Montreal, Quebec, Rioux is currently studying at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

What has been making headlines is an update on his height listed on the Gators’ profile page, which now stands at an impressive 7 feet 9 inches. This measurement could potentially make Rioux the tallest college basketball player ever if it is accurate. It’s worth noting that just last November, his height was recorded at 7 feet 6 inches, indicating a significant three-inch growth spurt within six months. This also solidified his standing as the world’s tallest teenager as recognized by Guinness World Records.

While he is considered a developmental project by the program, Rioux expressed confidence in head coach Todd Golden and is willing to be patient in the process of climbing up the bench. Despite being ranked No. 305 overall and No. 53 at his position according to the 247Sports composite, On3 industry rankings place him at Nos. 278 and 36 respectively.

In terms of recruiting, Rioux has shown promise through his participation in last year’s U18 FIBA AmeriCup where Canada secured a bronze medal with him contributing an average of 4.5 points and rebounds per game.
