From Saquon Barkley to Devin Singletary: The Giants’ New Look at the Running Back Position in 2021

PFF ranks Giants’ running backs as one of the worst in the league

The New York Giants have undergone significant changes at the running back position during the offseason. While Xavier McKinney and Darren Waller are important players on the team, the loss of Saquon Barkley will be felt more than any other player. Additionally, Matt Breida has not been re-signed by the Giants, but a potential reunion with the team is not out of the question.

These changes have left the Giants’ running back units ranked among the worst in the league, according to Pro Football Focus. Devin Singletary is expected to be the main back in New York following Barkley’s departure. He reunites with former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll after a strong performance last season.

Eric Gray is set to take on RB2 duties, with rookie Tyrone Tracy as a wild card that could boost the group, especially in the passing game. The Giants will need to adjust their offensive strategy without Barkley and may opt for a running back by committee approach in the upcoming season.

Singletary, who will wear No. 26, believes he can be a playmaker similar to Barkley. The Giants hope that Singletary will provide them with a reliable option at the position and perform above expectations, especially behind what is anticipated to be an improved offensive line.
