The Chicago Bears have set their sights on drafting quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Once they officially traded Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers, they wasted no time in focusing on his acclimation to the NFL. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer provided details on the Bears’ pre-draft process with Williams, where they used three one-hour Zoom meetings to prepare him to operate Shane Waldron’s offense.
During these meetings, the team focused on terminology, base plays, and red zone and third-down plays. Head coach Matt Eberflus mentioned that they wanted Williams to have the offense down pat by the time rookie minicamp rolled around. Since then, Williams has been applying what he learned on the practice field during organized team activities and has been surrounded by veteran teammates and weapons like DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, and Cole Kmet.
The Bears have set Williams up for immediate success in his rookie season by getting a head start on installing the offense and providing him with a talented roster. With an improved offensive line and a top-10 defense, Williams is in a great position to excel right from the start.
