From Prison to Passion: Vietfive Coffee and Tuan Huynh’s Journey to Community Building

Owner of West Loop coffee shop shares Vietnamese culture and heritage through menu items – NBC Chicago

Two years ago, Tuan Huynh opened Vietfive Coffee in Chicago’s West Loop with the goal of sharing his Vietnamese heritage and paying tribute to his roots. The response has been overwhelming, with customers able to experience a taste of Vietnam through unique flavors and blends.

Huynh’s journey to opening Vietfive Coffee wasn’t easy. Coming from a troubled background, he eventually served a prison sentence before turning his life around. Now working to inspire others in Chicago, he collaborates with community groups and organizations to create a space for conversations about representation.

Despite the challenges he faced, Huynh never lost his passion for Vietnamese coffee. With every cup he serves, he invites customers to become part of his journey and story. His goal is to build a community through outreach and initiatives that serve to bring people together over a love of coffee and Vietnamese culture.
