From Phoenix to Salt Lake City: Arizona Coyotes Announce Move and Elimination from Playoffs

Reports indicate that players of the Arizona Coyotes have been informed that their NHL franchise will be relocating to Salt Lake City

The NHL franchise Arizona Coyotes has announced that they will be relocating to Salt Lake City next season. This move comes after the team has played at a campus arena at Arizona State University in Tempe for their third venue since moving from Winnipeg in 1996. The Delta Center in Salt Lake City is currently being renovated to accommodate hockey and will serve as the new home for the Coyotes until a new downtown arena can be built.

The sale of the team from Alex Meruelo to Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith is expected to be finalized next week following the regular season finale. The Coyotes currently have a record of 34-40-5 and are in 7th place in the Central Division, which means they have been eliminated from playoff contention.

CBS Sports will continue to provide updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
