A man in Quang Ngai, Vietnam, experienced complete paralysis due to Guillain Barre syndrome but recovered after undergoing 6 plasma exchanges. Mr. Truong Quang Quyt, a 50-year-old man, was admitted to the emergency room at Quang Ngai Provincial General Hospital with symptoms of paralysis, loss of feeling in his body, difficulty talking, and swallowing on March 27. His condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to a diagnosis of Guillain Barre syndrome.
Guillain Barre syndrome is an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system attacks nerves, causing muscle paralysis. Dr. Tran Khac Vinh, Head of the Department of Intensive Care – Poison Control at the hospital highlighted Mr. Quyt’s case as unique due to the rapid progression of the disease.
