From Olympics to UFC: Kayla Harrison Defies Skeptics with Impressive 135-Pound Weigh-In

Kayla Harrison successful in weigh-in for bantamweight bout against Holly Holm at UFC 300

Kayla Harrison has proven her doubters wrong by making weight for her UFC 300 bantamweight bout against Holly Holm. Despite initial concerns about whether she could cut enough weight to reach the 135-pound limit, Harrison weighed in at 136 pounds at Friday’s official weigh-in.

As a two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo at 171 pounds and a professional fighter at 155 pounds in the PFL, Harrison’s ability to make weight for the UFC was initially questioned. However, her coach, Mike Brown, expressed confidence in her ability to cut the necessary weight in a short period of time, emphasizing that it required commitment and effort. Brown explained that although Harrison had been fighting at 155 pounds in the PFL, she was often facing opponents who were much larger, making the weight cut beneficial for her upcoming bout against Holm.

With a 16–1 record as a professional fighter, including six knockouts and six submission wins, Harrison is making her highly anticipated UFC debut against Holm. On the other hand, Holm, a former UFC bantamweight champion known for defeating Ronda Rousey in 2015, holds a record of 15–6, including a recent no contest decision due to her opponent testing positive for a banned substance. The matchup between Harrison and Holm promises to be an exciting and competitive fight for both fighters and fans alike.
