From Old Trafford to El Estadio Rayo Verde: Monterrey Signs Former World Cup Winner Jennifer Hermoso and Impressive Scorer Lucia Garcia

Manchester United’s Garcia poised to sign with Monterrey in Mexico

Jennifer Hermoso, a Spanish World Cup winner, has recently signed for Mexican champions Monterrey, joining the team that just won the Women’s Nations League in February. The move comes after 25-year-old forward Lucia Garcia decided to leave Manchester United this summer to join Monterrey, despite initially planning to stay.

Garcia had an impressive two-year run with United, scoring two goals in the Women’s FA Cup final as they claimed their first women’s major trophy with a 4-0 victory over Tottenham. However, a highly lucrative offer from Monterrey prompted her to make the move to Mexico. The paperwork for Garcia’s transfer is currently being finalized and she will be joining Hermoso at Monterrey.

United are already looking at options to replace Garcia and Elisabeth Terland of Brighton has been considered. Terland, who is out of contract this summer, has had discussions with United but is also attracting interest from other clubs. As Garcia prepares to depart for Monterrey, United are in the early stages of their pursuit of Terland as they plan for the upcoming season.

It remains to be seen how well United will adapt without Garcia but they are hopeful that a successful replacement can be secured to continue their progress in women’s football.
