From Obsurity to Powerhouse: USC Women’s Basketball Program Takes Center Stage with Kaleena Smith Recruitment

Top-ranked prospect in 2027 class receives offer from USC women’s basketball

In recent years, the USC Trojans women’s basketball program has undergone a transformation, and now they are considered a powerhouse in the sport. This is evident in their recruitment of Kaleena Smith, a 5-foot-5 point guard who is currently ranked as the top recruit in the Class of 2027. Smith, who attends Ontario Christian High School in California, has already received offers from other top programs such as Louisville, UConn, UCLA, LSU and South Carolina.

Smith’s impressive performance on the court last season showcased her skill and talent. She averaged 18.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 2.5 steals per game. In addition to her individual accomplishments, she was also selected to play for the USA Basketball U-17 National Team and will be joining Overtime Select, a new women’s basketball league for top recruits in August.

The recruitment of Smith reflects the current standing of USC Trojans women’s basketball program under the leadership of Lindsay Gottlieb. The team has risen from obscurity and average performance to regain prominence it had in early 1990s. With JuJu Watkins leading the charge, USC is now expected to reach Final Four and compete for top honors in Women’s NCAA Tournament.
