Doug Gottlieb hired by Green Bay as new men’s basketball coach

Green Bay has announced the hiring of Doug Gottlieb as the new men’s basketball coach, with an introductory news conference scheduled for Wednesday. Despite lacking college coaching experience, Gottlieb has been involved with coaching at the United States team at the Maccabiah Games. He was an assistant in 2009 and the head coach in 2017. Additionally, he was considered for the head coaching job at Oklahoma State in the past.

Gottlieb, a Milwaukee native, is a former standout point guard at Oklahoma State and ranks among the top 15 all-time assist leaders. His college career began at Notre Dame, though he left the school after a credit card theft incident involving classmates. He expressed his excitement to return to Wisconsin and fulfill his dream of coaching at the Division I level. Beyond coaching, Gottlieb will reportedly continue hosting his Fox Sports radio show while leading the Green Bay program. His background in basketball and media experience make him a unique addition to the coaching staff at UWGB.
