The South Windsor Planning and Zoning Commission will discuss a proposed site plan modification on Tuesday that includes a reference to Sally’s Apizza. The modification pertains to a 5,000 square-foot restaurant at Evergreen Walk, which could potentially be the location for a new branch of Sally’s, one of the top-rated pizza establishments in the country.
Sally’s Apizza is considered part of “The Holy Trinity” of New Haven pizzerias, alongside Frank Pepe’s and Modern Apizza. It has been ranked number one on “my official Top Ten pizza places in the world” by Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports. Founded by Salvatore “Sally” Consiglio in 1938, Sally’s has been a New Haven institution frequented by celebrities like Frank Sinatra and John F. Kennedy. Known for its distinctive sauce and crispy yet chewy crust with an “iconic oven-kissed char,” Sally’s has been featured in various publications.
While a representative for Sally’s has not confirmed the potential site in South Windsor, the pizzeria’s website lists Manchester among its development markets. Evergreen Walk, where the site plan modification is proposed, is located near the Manchester town line. The approved site plan from last fall also includes a 2,375 square-foot Chipotle and a 2,400 square-foot Starbucks, with construction currently underway on all three buildings. Additional locations for Sally’s have been announced in other towns within Connecticut and Massachusetts, with plans for expansion in the coming years.
