From NBC Universal to Bloomberg News: The Journey of Amara Omeokwe

Omeokwe hired by Bloomberg to report on Federal Reserve and economy

Amara Omeokwe has recently joined Bloomberg News to cover the Federal Reserve Board and the economy. Prior to her current role, she was an economics reporter for The Wall Street Journal. She was laid off earlier this year, but before that, she was a part of NPR’s flagship morning program, “Morning Edition.”

Before her work at NPR, Omeokwe was a video journalist/reporter at Time Warner Cable News in North Carolina. In this role, she covered general assignment and breaking news stories. She was responsible for shooting, writing, narrating, and editing her stories, as well as frequently reporting live and leading business coverage in the Greensboro newsroom.

Omeokwe also has experience in producing. She helped launch and served as executive producer for several episodes of a video web series called “True Story” from theGrio.com. The series focused on issues facing the African-American community.

Her career began at NBC Universal, where she worked her way from the East Coast Page Program to producing at CNBC. During her time at CNBC, Omeokwe covered a wide range of financial topics, including Wall Street banks, M&A, IPOs, and daily market action in stocks
