From Injury to Rehab: Oswald Peraza’s Journey Back to the Majors with the Tampa Tarpons

Yankees’ Oswald Peraza to start rehab assignment on Tuesday

On Tuesday, Oswald Peraza, who has been out of action for eight weeks, will begin a rehab assignment with the Tampa Tarpons. The 23-year-old infielder had reported discomfort in his right shoulder during spring training and was diagnosed with a subscapular strain.

After being shut down on March 9, it was announced that Peraza would need six to eight weeks to recover. Saturday marked the eight-week milestone since the injury was announced. Despite this, Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated that Peraza is still a while away from being activated. Boone mentioned that Peraza will need to go through a full spring training of games before he can fully return, which may take a few more weeks.

Peraza began throwing again in early April and has played in 70 games for the Yankees over the last two seasons. During that time, he recorded a .216 batting average with three home runs, 11 doubles, 16 RBI, and 23 runs scored.
