From Gadsden High to the World Stage: Etowah County Sports Hall of Fame Inducts Remarkable Legends

2024 class announced for Etowah County Sports Hall of Fame

The Etowah County Sports Hall of Fame recently announced its 2024 class, which includes several notable legends from the area. This year’s inductees will be formally inducted into the hall during a banquet at the Venue at Coosa Landing on Saturday, June 8, beginning at 6 p.m. Prior to the banquet, there will be a meet and greet event for attendees to mingle with the inductees.

Keith Dudley, an outstanding athlete from Gadsden High who excelled from 1986-88, will be honored as one of this year’s headline inductees. During his time at Gadsden High, Keith earned varsity letters in three sports and was named an all-state honorable mention in basketball before helping lead Jacksonville State to the 1984 Division II National Championship. His brothers James and Anthony Dudley also played for Gadsden High and achieved great success on their own merits: James received an all-state honorable mention in basketball while Anthony played for Gadsden High and Alabama before achieving success overseas.

Anne Renfrow, a local equestrian who won the Amateur Ladies Open World Grand Championship four times, is another standout member of this year’s class. Joining her in the hall is her sister Alburta Lowe, who won two Amateur Celebration titles (in 1968 and 1969) before going on to become a successful trainer and showman. Steve Copeland, known for his remarkable career at Gadsden High and his later success at Georgia Tech (where he earned All-SEC honors in 1965), rounds out this year’s class of exceptional athletes from Etowah County.
