As the war in Ukraine continues to escalate, concerns are being raised by Ukrainian forces on the frontline about the critical phase they are entering. The soldiers are struggling to defend against continuous Russian attacks and are requesting more ammunition to do so. Colonel Pavlo Palisa, leading the 93rd Mechanised Brigade near the important city of Chasiv Yar, believes that Russia is gearing up for a major offensive to break Ukrainian lines in the east. He acknowledges that it will be a challenging period for the armed forces and emphasizes the importance of imposing a heavy cost on Russia quickly.

The discrepancies in resources between the two opposing forces are significant, with Ukrainian troops facing an enemy that is vastly better equipped. Gun commander Oleksandr Kozachenko confirms this by stating that his unit’s howitzer, which was previously firing 100 shells a day, is now limited to less than 10 due to ammunition shortages. Gunners in the Donetsk region are urgently requesting more 155mm rounds for their Western cannons, which were effective against Russia earlier in the conflict.
