From Football Field to Golf Course: Tua Tagovailoa’s Offseason Training and Success on the Dolphins

Mike McDaniel praises Tua Tagovailoa’s lean physique after weight loss

Tua Tagovailoa, the quarterback of the Miami Dolphins, has been in and out of the team’s voluntary offseason program. He was absent on Tuesday to participate in Nick Saban’s golf tournament, but his coach Mike McDaniel would not reveal whether his absence was contract-related.

Despite not being at the facility, Tagovailoa has been working hard on improving his agility and escapability this offseason. He lost “10 to 15 pounds” and is now around 220 pounds, according to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Media. The Dolphins list Tagovailoa at 227 after weighing 217 at the 2020 Scouting Combine.

Tagovailoa had a standout year in 2023, starting every game for the first time in his career while leading the league with 4,624 passing yards. He also threw for career-highs in touchdowns (29) and interceptions (14). His success on the field has earned him praise from his coach and fans alike.
