From Field to Table: Egypt’s Wheat Purchasing Season Begins with Competitive Prices and Strict Specifications

Supply of Egyptian wheat available from April to August

The Egyptian government has announced the start of the season for purchasing locally produced wheat for the 2024 harvest. The process will take place from April 15 to August 15, with wheat purchase prices set at 2,000 pounds for ardeb with a purity of 23.5 carats, 1,950 pounds for ardeb with a purity of 23 carats, and 1,900 pounds for ardeb with a purity of 22.5 carats. Wheat must be free from insect infestation, sand, and clay, with a minimum purity of 22.5 carats.

The General Authority for Supply Commodities will market the locally produced wheat crop on behalf of various entities such as the Egyptian Holding Company for Silos and Storage, the General Company for Silos and Storage, milling companies affiliated with the Holding Company for Food Industries, and the Agricultural Bank of Egypt. These entities will be responsible for receiving wheat that meets specified conditions and are approved by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.

The costs for marketing, storage, weighing, loading, aging, emptying, and sorting per ton supplied have been set at 175 pounds for barns, hangars
