Former Nebraska baseball player Cade Povich is set to make his Major League Baseball debut on Thursday afternoon after being called up by the Baltimore Orioles. Povich, who is the 41st Nebraska baseball player to reach the big leagues, will be facing off against the Toronto Blue Jays at 12:07 p.m. CT.
During his time in Triple-A Norfolk, Povich had a strong showing with a 5-1 record in 11 starts and a 3.18 ERA. He also recorded an impressive 75 strikeouts in just 56.2 innings pitched. Prior to that, Povich had standout seasons at Nebraska in both 2020 and 2021, posting a combined record of 7-3 with an ERA of 3.52 over 102.1 innings pitched.
Initially drafted by the Minnesota Twins, Povich was later acquired by Baltimore through a trade involving Jorge Lopez in August of 2022. Now he’s poised to make his mark on the big league stage as he takes on the Blue Jays this afternoon in Toronto. The game is scheduled to begin at precisely 12:07 p.m., so fans can catch all of Povich’s action live!
