From Editor-in-Chief to Editor-at-Large: Business Insider Bids Farewell to Nicholas Carlson

Editor-in-Chief of Business Insider, Nicholas Carlson, Resigns

Business Insider has announced that its Editor-in-Chief, Nicholas Carlson, will be stepping down from his role at the company. Although Carlson will no longer be in charge of day-to-day operations, he will remain with Business Insider as an editor-at-large, focusing on long-term reporting and projects. The CEO of Business Insider, Barbara Peng, will lead the search for a new editor-in-chief to replace Carlson.

In an internal memo to staff, Carlson emphasized that his decision to step down had nothing to do with criticism of Business Insider’s journalism. He highlighted the outlet’s recent reporting on Neri Oxman’s work, which drew backlash from billionaire Bill Ackman. Despite this setback, Carlson expressed confidence in the future of Business Insider, praising its clear editorial strategy and commitment to its target audience.

Peng praised Carlson for his contributions to Business Insider and thanked him for his leadership and impact on the newsroom. An Axel Springer spokesperson commended Carlson for enabling Business Insider to become an award-winning newsroom with a global readership.

Business Insider’s parent company stated that they are excited for the renewed focus on reporting on business, tech, and innovation. They expressed gratitude for Carlson’s leadership and looked forward to continuing their commitment to high-quality journalism under new leadership. The search for a new editor-in-chief is expected to begin soon.
