From Dream to Reality: The Establishment of Southern Arizona Museum of Science and Technology and the Impact on Sierra Vista’s Community

Community Welcomed to Explore New Southern Arizona Museum of Science and Technology

Since 1995, Ron Hyde has been determined to see a history museum established in Sierra Vista. It wasn’t until late 2023 that he finally started making progress on his dream. Working closely with Roger Weller, a former geology professor at Cochise College and member of the Huachuca Mineral and Gem Club, Hyde is now the curator of the Southern Arizona Museum of Science and Technology. Their goal is to showcase the rich mineral and fossil history of Cochise County and to highlight Sierra Vista as a hidden gem worth exploring.

Hyde and Weller are passionate about using the museum to promote STEM education and boost the local economy through tourism. They recognize the importance of sparking interest in science at a young age and hope to make a lasting impact on visitors. The museum operates Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with suggested donations for entry: $10 for adults, $8 for military/seniors, and $5 for kids. More details, including the address, can be found on their Facebook page.
