From Draft Pick to Major Leaguer: The Progress of Orioles’ Jackson Holliday

Report: Orioles set to promote top prospect Jackson Holliday

Baltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias has praised the progress of top prospect Jackson Holliday, who has been called up from the team’s Triple-A affiliate after a strong start to the season. The infielder, who was drafted as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, impressed during spring training with the Orioles before returning to Norfolk Tides. In 10 games with the Tides, Holliday hit .333/.482/.595 with nine RBI and two home runs.

Holliday’s father, former MLB outfielder Matt Holliday, has been watching his son’s progress closely and is proud of what he has accomplished so far. According to Elias, Holliday is ahead of schedule in his development and has the potential to be one of the best players in the league. The 20-year-old has been playing second base this season in Norfolk but may be moved around as needed by the Orioles.

The Orioles are coming off a 7-1 win against their rival Red Sox and currently hold a 6-4 record this season. Their strong start comes after winning over 100 games last season for the first time since 1980, which many consider to be one of their most successful seasons in recent memory. With Holliday now on board, it will be interesting to see how he fits into the team’s plans for success moving forward.
